Within a few minutes walk from the house door you reach a cross-country ski-track where you can train for the next Engadine Ski Marathon.

Further the village owns a ice rink where you can skate or practice the traditional sport of "Eisstockschiessen"

In the evening you can go to the thermal bath of the neighbouring village Alvaneu Bad. There you recreate in the 34°C sulfide bath.

the village

Schmitten is a picturesque mountain village (1300 m a.s.l.) in the Grisons situated in the Albula Valley. The village is part of the natural preserve Parc Ela and is surrounded by  beautiful green landscapes and a stunning mountain scenery.

The striking monument of Schmitten is the green hill with the baroque church Allerheiligenkirche and the Roman Luziuskappelle with its late  Gothic frescos from the 14th Century.

summer

Schmitten is an ideal starting point for hikes: For example to the viewpoint Hirtenstock or the beautiful Bergünerstöcke. A must is a walk to the Landwasserviadukt, which is illuminated at night. On guided tours you can also visit the old mines above Schmitten (2546 m a.s.l.). Another highlight is the castle ruin Belfort (half way to Lenzerheide).

For sports enthusiast there is a big Vitaparcours (running track through the forest) and a marked cycle path. A golf course and a driving range can be found in the neighboring village Alvaneu.

For the kids there is a large children's playground with barbecue and children's railway. If you are eager to learn more about the history of our house former objects are on display in the local museum.
